Kincardine Angus beginnings

Established in 1969 on the Smith's family farm, Charnwood, near Mt Somers, in the Mid Canterbury foothills between Mt Somers and Mt Hutt. Kincardine Angus has always maintained strict quality control within the herd, breeding from a select number of high ranking females. Foundation bloodlines were sourced with heifers from the Turihau stud. The dam Turihau Merry Maiden bred exceptionally well and produced KC Irma 3 who was unbeaten in the show ring and was the Champion Angus at the Royal Show. Foundation sires of note were: TeMania Fortifier - a world record EMA with exceptional conformation who was later on sold to Karahau Stud; Stern Kodak - a strong, sound breeding bull; Electron of Wairere, Cricklewood Caeser - again a world record EMA at his time, promoting great strength, presence, muscle expression, mobility, and docility. His presence is represented in today’s stud, Kincardine Kingdom 531 who shows similar strength, presence, and docility to his grandsire, his first sons have sold well in the 2019 season. Past successes include exporting semen to Scotland - where a sired female sold with a calf at foot for a then Scottish Angus record price of 30,000 guineas, selling beef bulls to Australia, and having the second longest consecutive bull sales to Molesworth Station.

present day

Mike and Gemma Smith, have been farming in the Wakatipu area from 2006. They live near Lake Hayes, and run the Angus stud and crossbred sheep, in the Wakatipu Basin surrounded by the majestic snow capped mountains of Queenstown. As third generation farmers - farming is in their blood. They have been fortunate to bring the top cows of the Kincardine Angus Stud cattle from Canterbury to the Wakatipu, and these form the backbone of their breeding programme. These cows have been mated to specifically chosen AI sires to positively influence the herd and establish a genetic improvement to clients and finishers alike.
